Christmas 2010

On Christmas eve we went over to one of my dad's friends house. He was taking all of the neighborhood kids up in his hot air balloon. Just as he was about to wrap things up and call it a night, he called my dad over and ordered him to hop in the basket. My dad was hesitant (he is afraid of heights) but couldn't refuse. It was pretty cool. The flame inside illuminated the balloon beautifully. The bright red color looked pretty amazing againt the pitch black sky. It was quite a scene and luckily I snapped a few photos to capture the moment.

Later that night, we put on our church clothes and headed to Midnight Mass at St. Mary's. This is one of our family traditions that I REALLY enjoy doing every year. Jeremy's friends Keith and Brian came along. About an hour before church Jeremy gets a text "Hey. What time does midnight mass start?"...typical Keith.

The next morning we all woke up around ten and my awesome mom cooked us a delicious breakfast as we waited for my dad to come home from work to open presents. (I wish she was here right this second to make that same exact breakfast for me right now...)

We opened presents, listened to Christmas music (for about five minutes before it got over thrown by ESPN), laughed, talked and hugged.

Christmas night my dad cooked a tasty feast. Jeremy's friends and Candise came over, and of course we had a party.

Even though I missed E a TON, I had a great Christmas this year spending it with friends and family. I'm one lucky girl.

Thrifty

Seeing as I have been a lazy bum while at home the past week, I think I SHOULD have atleast ten new blog posts up. I'm not really sure why I havent been keeping up. ANYway...

(I can't find the charger to my camera. Therefore my posts from now on will be lacking all of the beautiful pictures that usually accompany them. Devastating, i know.)

Hmmm where to begin.

Well as we all know, I was/am broke for Christmas this year. Me & E did some inventory work for E's dad in order to scrounge some money last minute for gift buying. It ended up being just the right amount of money and we were able to get gifts for our friends and fam. I searched for good sales and attempted to be thrifty.

I was especially proud of my thriftiness when shopping for my friend Candise. I forgot to take pictures, but I'm working on getting some from her soon. I took the DIY route when it came to Candise's present. I was pretty pumped with the outcomes.

I made her a pretty cute (if I do say so myself) cake stand. I thrifted a vintage plate and candle holder. Slapped some glass glue on the bottom of the plate and placed the candle holder in the center and viola! a beautiful cake stand for just under 8 bucks! I also made her a bunting necklace (like the one pictured below). I knocked it off of (an extremely over priced) Anthropologie one and I LOVE it. Candise and I love love everytihng bunting and when I saw this necklace I knew I HAD to attempt it. I'm not gonna lie I was pretty impressed with myself...pictures to come!

(I cant wait to show pics of how mine turned out!)

I picked up a few other things at the thrift store and everything ended up making the perfect little collection of presents.

oh p.s.! I forgot to share the picture I painted for my pops! So some backstory...when we were in Ecuador this summer, we kept seeing a specific type of painting of serranos. All I remember is that there were really bright colors in it and that the people were geometric figures. My dad wanted to buy one, but I told him not to because they were easily 200 dollars and I was pretty confident that I could create the same thing for about ten bucks (I could sense that he didn't have faith). Last week, I searched the internet for a similar paitning to look off of but I couldnt find ANYTHING. Finally, as I became desperate I started looking inside the pictures of markets. I spotted ONE small painting amongst many others in a random market, and I took it and ran with it. What do you think?

(I changed the background a bit to what I remember the other ones looking like...AND also it looks ten times better in person)

thats all for now.

Why me

Yes, I do love Dexter, but man was I sure looking forward to a week without having to tend to him. In ABQ its not so bad because I am his life and he just wants to be my best buddy, but in Farmington it's a whole other story.

He is constantly amped up and wanting to play with Tyson and Lola. They are interesting dogs that dont understand how to socialize with other dogs, so its a constant barking battle when they are together. So much for getting to relax over my break. Another added bonus with having Dexter here is he likes to get up at the crack of dawn to go upstairs and see the dogs. Which means no sleeping in for me. Just grand I tell ya. I can't leave him alone for one second which makes showering, putting make up on, going out to my car, going to the bathroom, (etc) way harder tasks than they were meant to be. Not to mention how awful I feel for my parents, because I know they (and when I say they, I mean my MOM) were looking forward to not having him here for the holidays (as sad as that sounds). Dexter annoys the crap outta my mom and I hate to see how upset she is with him the second she walks in the door from work. He jumps/attacks anyone who walks in the door, which forces me to put him in his kennel when there is company, which then leads to howling/whining noises coming from my room for an hour until he falls asleep. UGH.

I am going crazy if you can't tell.
Yes, and tears even came out of my eyes as I was over come with frustration yesterday.
Anyone want to take him for a few days? That would be great.

Help.

Hmph...

Normally I pride myself in being a pretty darn good christmas shopper. I listen for hints and clues all year long in hopes of finding that perfect gift for the special peeps in my life. I love seeing their faces when they open up their present and its something that they really wanted but never expected anyone would get. This year was a total failure, with everyone really, but especially with E...I have no idea what to get him this year. I'm so bummed.

hmph.

New Hobby

Not sure whether this is a good or a bad thing, but Me&E's new hobby is baking these delish treats...
It feels like a good thing {I mean we ARE drinking a lot more milk than we ever have before}...but then when we start to add figures in our head of the number of cookies that dissappear in such a short amount of time, it starts to feel like a bad thing. :(

Well, whether it's a good thing or a bad thing, there definitely won't be a shortage of cookies any time soon...

Mustache Parties are Fun.

Somehow over Thanksgiving I ended up with my aunt Sabrina's camera. I keep meaning to give it back to her, but I can't help but take pics with it when it's just laying in my purse all the time...which means that I can't give it back to her until I upload all of the pics that I've taken off of the memory card. Well, I finally did today, and I came across these pictures from a little birthday dinner-party I threw for my younger cousin Matthew a few months ago. Sabrina is a bit technologically challenged and apparently hasn't uploaded any pictures since she got the camera two years ago for Christmas.

There were a TON of pictures that uploaded onto my computer. And it was a pleasant surprise that these were among them...
